LAC du Saint Sacrement Lunch Cruise
by Dottie Willey
We boarded the Wade bus shortly after 9:30am heading for the Steel Pier at Lake George Village. It was a picture - perfect day as we embarked upon the cruise ship from the Steamboat Dock at 57 Beach Road. The Lake George Steamboat Company is the oldest continually operating Steamboat company in America, operating since 1817.
There could have been no finer Fall experience than viewing Lake George at the foothills of this majestic, surrounding Adirondack Mountain spectacular. The decks and lounges of this attractive 190-foot vessel featured live entertainment for our listening and dancing pleasure.
With first class food, we enjoyed a superb luncheon buffet and were catered to, by an efficient, friendly, caring and professional wait staff. Our menus included: hot soups, meats, a variety of salads and vegetables, with tasty Apple Crisp for desert and hot and cold beverages of our choice.
As the 190 year old history of the Lake George Steamboat Company, the "naming" of this vessel was decided to return to the original name give to the lake (appearing as the shape of a chalice from the higher mountains) by the Jesuit priest, Isaac Jocques, in 1646. The name met with the approval of the Catholic hierarchy and the vessel on was christened the Lac du Saint Sacrement meaning: "The Lake of the Blessed Sacrement" on June 15, 1989.
Once again, we are grateful to Sue, Anne and Betty for providing us with this wonderful cruise on the infamous 32 mile long Lake George. All of us enjoyed the excellent food, entertainment while viewing the awesome Autumn scenery of the Adirondacks in this most peasant setting on Lake George.
